Mad honey in Illinois.
We have not established product-specific permission for mad honey in Illinois. General food, labeling and import requirements still matter. A seller offering delivery does not establish that a particular jar or transaction complies with them.
Federal import rules are not a product approval
FDA says imported food must meet US safety and labeling requirements and may be inspected or detained for non-compliance. FDA does not approve individual food products or shipments in advance. Read FDA’s food-import guidance.
Personal use does not create blanket permission. The applicable process differs between food accompanying a traveler and a mailed order. FDA personal-importation guidance explains prior-notice requirements and exceptions; it also points to other agencies’ rules.
Where to check in Illinois
Illinois Department of Public Health — Retail Food
Illinois directs retail food operators to the local health department where they intend to operate. Use that local route for a proposed shop or product question; the retail-food guidance is not a product clearance.
Questions to resolve before an order
- Identify the product, origin, ingredient label, batch and seller.
- Distinguish domestic retail, an overseas parcel and traveler baggage.
- Ask the relevant authority what requirements apply to that exact scenario.
- Confirm current stock, delivered price and refund terms separately.
This review does not establish an age rule, absence of enforcement, guaranteed customs clearance or a complete legal conclusion. Earlier blanket claims have been removed.
